About Me

I’m Weiqi Tao, Skidmore’ 26, major in Sociology and minor in Economics and Philosophy.

WHY SOCIOLOGY

I chose Sociology because I’ve always wanted to understand why people and institutions act the way they do. It helps me make sense of social inequality and everyday life interactions.

WHY ECONOMICS

Economics helps me to understand how decisions, incentives, and markets shape society. It also strengthens my analytical skills, which support my research in sociology.

WHY PHILOSOPHY

I am enjoying asking questions and challenging assumptions. It helps me to see different sides of an issue. It also improves my writing and reasoning in my other work.

Sociology shows me society; Economics explains its choices; Philosophy helps me question them.

I’ve taken part in four internships in digital marketing and website management during my college journey, ranging from Trip.com to Shanghai Disney Resort. These experiences showed me how powerful online advertising can be in reaching audiences and how storytelling shapes engagement. They sparked my interest and potential career path in combining creativity with strategic thinking in the digital space.

My research interests focus on gender equity and rights in both academia and the workplace. I have worked as an interview coder during my college years, which trained me in qualitative interviewing, coding, and quantitative data collection. I also conducted an independent study on livestreaming discourse and its impact on New Chinese-style fashion by analyzing real-time livestream content..
